50’s Revival

By The Fashion Network MFN Add comments

Last summer fashion was all about the hippy vibe of the 70’s but this year we’re taking a step back even further to the glamorous 50’s. We’ve already seen hints of this era making a revival with the launch of the very popular midi skirt, and this year it’s all about structure and femininity.

The Paris s/s catwalks were all about the couture 50’s shapes, classic cuts and strong silhouettes with designers such as Balenciaga, Comme des Garcons and Jil Sander showing us just how the 50’s look is done! However, this trend isn’t just a fling for the summer as Celine proved to us last week at Paris Fashion Week… the headline act in her stunning collection were a series of amazing boyfriend fit coats in an array of bright colours (our favourite being the pink).

So here at The Fashion Networkwe’ve jumped straight on the 50’s band wagon by bringing you this fabulous series of coats perfect for adding that much needed hint of glamour to your wardrobe.

This Topshop Boutique canary yellow coat is the perfect addition for your s/s wardrobe! Similar to a coat worn by Audrey Hepbrun it’s the Queen of the 50’s revival. Keep it simple when styling this piece, as the cute front tie fastening adds just the right amount of femininity. Wear over a simple dress and team with black leather gloves and heels. To add that even greater Hepurn touch tie your hair up in a bun and expose that stunning collar.

If you’re looking for luxury then this stunning hot pink Linea double breasted coat is perfect. Not far from resembling the pink fur coat featured in Celine’s fall 2012 collection this is without a doubt our favourite! Made from a wool blend with added cashmere this super soft coat will have you feeling every bit as glamorous as you look. To stay true to the ‘boyfriend’ look wear with a cropped cigarette pant and a super cool pair of brogues.

This Gilinix double breasted coat is another great piece when it comes to adding a strong 50’s look to your wardrobe. Again another ‘boyfriend’ style coat it’s shaped like a men’s blazer for that perfect straight down fit. A similar cut to coats featured in Celine’s fall 2012 collection the large lapels add great detail and the check navy tweed gives it that little hint of quirkiness. Try rolling up the sleeves to a ¾ length and wear over a tailored suit for that true 50’s vibe and when wearing in winter add a fur scarf for even more glamour.
