How well do the trends from Milan fashion week translate into our 2010 S/S wardrobe? Very well, as it happens.

Women of Manchester, expect to spend most of the time with your head in the clouds, as heels will be as high as the heavens.

Gucci has encouraged the appeal of the body con and instigated a move towards cleaner lines, crisp whites and muted greys. Somewhere between a dental hygienist and a sexy Bond Girl and you’re there. After all, cleanliness is next to Godliness, which comes in handy with the type of shoes we are set to be wearing.

The persistence of underwear as outerwear is admirable. Time to cash in those prayer chips for a Mancunian heat wave, we’re gonna need it. The sheerest of fabrics leave very little to the imagination, with just about room to moisturise before dressing.

Raw, unfinished edges and classic Hawaiian-style prints from Fendi and Prada respectively, will keep us in the frame of shabby-chic. A clear nod of approval towards the vintage wave which continues to wash over the streets of Manchester.

The message at Dolce & Gabbana was that sharp masculine tailoring with a softer feminine accompaniment would continue to lead the way. Albeit this time with a more gothic influence of lace, fringing and ruffles, not unlike the styles we saw doing the rounds in A/W 2008.

Emilio Pucci had a collection to make Bianca Jaggers heart race, with an air of 70’s glamour, which hinted at a dreamy jet-setting lifestyle. Vivid colour, a staple part of the Pucci diet, was however lacking. It was the responsibility of Versace to correct this, pinching their playful colour palette from a candy shop.

Our options for next Spring/Summer are as eclectic as the mixes we’ve seen out and about for the last couple of seasons, allowing for a pleasing synthesis. Just remember to wear it shaken AND stirred.
