An Evening With Marc Jacobs

Last night, Harvey Nichols opened their doors to a select few for the preview of the Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 09 accessories collection.

Judging by the euphoric gazes around the room, the latest collection failed to disappoint; this was bag paradise. Like a yearning child gaining entry to the Wonker factory, guests sampled the flavours of the arm candy on offer, only with less calorific consequences.

Marc’s two main ranges, Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc, presented styles for all palettes. The former highlighted classic time-defying pieces. The latter, the younger and more rebellious sister, illustrated the fun yet fickle tastes of fashion with it’s cartoon animal detailing and vivid, electrifying shades.

The famed signature details were all there: the quilting, the gold trims, the padlocks, yet it still felt like the first unveiling. Exotic colour swatches and paisley brights connect the dots for 2009.

For one night only, there was a chance to purchase one of eight bags, which had been sent exclusively to Manchester from the Knightsbridge store. The select assortment included the Alyona bag from the punk inspired Vortex collection. Part of the allure of the purchase for the potential buyer was it’s sole existence in the whole of Manchester.

There was the fantastic opportunity to win a classic Blake bag on the night. A bonus for those not yet inducted into the world of Marc Jacobs leather goods and those looking to own a piece from the very first collection.

Champagne and cupcakes were the delicacies on offer, but the conclusive treat was in the shape of a goody bag.
