David Koma at LFW

David Koma has been a firm favourite of the celebrity World in recent times with Beyonce and Cheryl Cole sporting his designs on the red carpet. Last season I was quite disappointed with Koma’s offerings but the A/W 10 – 11 collection instantly changed my mind.

As this collection stomped down the catwalk, it was clear to see that Koma had taken a leaf out of Hannah Marshall’s book and turned to black leather, sharp lines and striking geometrical shapes. With the usual bodycon shapes of Koma came a rather different harshness that was not evident in his previous work, this came in the form of triangular and diagonal shapes cut into teeth like shapes.

As always, there was a splash of detailed embellishment, with tiny beads weaved into sculptural accessories adorning the models’ hips, shoulders and necks in silver, gold and a multitude of tones.

The cutouts, bodycon, low necklines and short hemlines make this collection quite sexual, but the addition of long sleeves and felted fabrics tones it down to create a subtle sexiness.

This collection has reignited my belief in David Koma and I’m looking forward to seeing what he comes up with in the future.
