Harvey Nichols S/S 2010 Fashion Show
Last night Urbis was transformed into a venue worthy of London Fashion Week for the Harvey Nichols S/S 2010 fashion show with champagne and air kisses aplenty.
A long, UV paint splattered runway had been set up through the centre of the space with a specially made, theatre style curtain for the models to step out from. This artwork had been created by Irish artist Helen Steele and gave the night a very unique and creative edge. The seemingly random paint splatters and swirls contrasted beautifully with the styling of the show, bringing out the colours of the pieces even more.
The show began with the screening of a short film by Helen Steele and got the audience excited for what was to come, the video showed a clown throwing different coloured paints at a model wearing a beautifully structured, floor length dress. Immediately after this, a model wearing a shorter version of the paint splattered dress stepped out onto the runway and the show had begun.
The show was split up into 11 different sections, with men and women, young and old being catered for. Key, seasonal trends were rife throughout the show, here's a breakdown of my favourite sections and trends within them.
The Talented Mr Ripley
This take on menswear is perhaps the most classic and transferable from season to season that was shown. With a very Italian feel to the styling, this is for the fashion conscious gentleman. Colour palette included: Neutral tones, nudes and bright accents. Get yourself some rolled up chinos, crisp polo shirts and deck shoes to complete the look.
Featured designers include: Paul smith, Fred Perry, Gucci and Tween.
Feminine Military
This is S/S 2010's nod towards future trends, influences from recent A/W 2010 shows can be seen within. This is a trend I'd recommend to pick up now and settle into by Autumn, just keep adding layers as it gets colder! This trend calls for khaki and neutrals from head to toe, keep the style tailored and refined for S/S.
Featured designers include: Lanvin, Balmain, YSL and Roksanda Ilincic.
Fairytale
Think feminine, chiffon, floaty fabrics and light tones and you'll have this trend down to a tee. Perfect for S/S and there's no way you can't feel like a princess in this delicate look. Opt for sheer, layered and iridescent fabrics.
Featured designers include: Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney and Jil Sander.
