The Return of Flower Power
The fashion industry can be described as many things, but one thing is for certain- it always remains relevant and modern. Fashion keeps at its forefront key issues that affect our current society.
From global warming to society’s current obsession with body size and image, designers have always used fashion to comment on our ever changing world. Recently many fashion designers and models have used their skills and expertise as a way to influence and help others.
There is one company however who is currently racing ahead when it comes to using fashion to support major campaigns and that is the French fashionistas at Liberty. This is a brand that puts the ‘print’ into ‘carbon footprint’.
Last year, a boutique named ‘Merci’ opened in the chic district of Marais in the thumping heart of Paris. This store was not your average little boutique, oh non! Instead all of their profits were donated to Madagascan women and children where many of the products had been made.
The people behind Liberty have since joined forces with ‘Merci’ to create a swap shop of grand proportions. Liberty’s Creative Director, Marie France Cohen also designed a limited edition collection of products that were a huge success.
Now this great collaboration has heard London’s call and has voyaged across The English Channel to our capital city. Liberty’s unique modern take on the flower power style is a very now trend, perfect for sunny March. Check out their online store, the collection is blooming marvellous and ranges from soft furnishings, stationary and homewares to women’s fashion.
I loved the effortless Phoebe print jumpsuit its perfect for garden parties and BBQ’s in the summer sunshine. My own personal favourite was the cute floral Claire Aude shorts. Teamed with a simple tee and colourful cardigan it would be a great look for spring and bang on trend.
So why not visit Liberty’s unique website; you will not only be helping pick out a limited piece from the collection but also helping those who are less fortunate in the process. Now that’s my kind of charity work!
