The Manchester Fashion Network has been a hectic and buzzing place this past week as preparations for Chantelle Tagoe's charity fashion show came to a head. As we headed over to the venue, closely watched over by Emma Doyle aka the brains behind this operation, designer clothes and make up team in tow, it was clear tonight was not going to be an ordinary night.

As soon as I stepped into Room, the venue for the event, I was confronted with a barrage of excited activity; traditional African drummers dancing around, models wandering around in rollers trying to find signal, a mountain of amazing prizes being sorted out for the tombola and film crews following our every move.

Backstage there are rails of beautiful clothes and beautiful Boss models being styled up by the fabulous designer Amechi Ihenacho who's designs will be taking centre stage in the fashion show later in the evening. After a quick flick through the rails and a sneaky peek at the Fatz Kassim jewellery adorning models left, right and centre I decided to venture back into the main area as the doors were about to open.

The entrance area was jammed with celebrities, photographers, film crews and drummers as people entered the charity tombola as they entered, the prizes on this tombola are nothing like those at the school fairs we're all used to, prizes ranged from a gift hampers from at Harvey Nichols, Champagne Dinners, GHDs to an LG Sound System!

As is only normal, I had a bit of a scout round to see what everyone was wearing. There were a range of different looks, some people opting for classic LBDs and quirky accessories to others who are fully embracing the S/S 10 trends. No one sported a long dress though, everyone opting for the elegant cocktail dress unless we're counting the fashion show of course. Chantelle, the belle of the ball, wore a dress featured in the Harvey Nichols show the previous night that she had been coveting for the past few weeks; a gold, sequin tunic style number that shimmered like a mirror ball as she walked.

As the beginning of the fashion show drew closer, I moved to the front of the crowd to have a chat with the photographer stationed close to the catwalk to get the best shots and check out the bustling crowd. The screens either side of the catwalk light up as people begin to take their seats, showing shots of the crowd with the occasional shot of Chantelle wearing an amazing Diane Von Furstenburg maxi dress that is up for auction these evening along with a Marc Jacobs handbag, quite the prize I think you'll agree!

Now that everyone was seated and settled, the front row boasting footballers, soap stars and Manchester's rich and famous, the show could begin. Chantelle stepped out onto the stage thanked everyone for coming and told us all a little bit more about her trip to South Africa to visit orphanages. Her face lit up as a short film of her time there played, the children she met obviously meant a lot to her and is what tonight is all about.

As the show progressed the crowd got gradually more excited with huge cheers from the audience for Chantelle's sister (who also happens to be the current miss black britain) who modelled beautifully and male models in Speedos which guarantees a cheer! Amechi Ihenacho's designs stole the show and one lucky lady won the chance to have a couture dress made especially for her in the auction.

The night was a huge success with £40,000 being raised  by the auction alone, there were some determined bidders who paid over £5, 000 for signed England Shirts! Other prizes included Swarovski encrusted Havianas and a Helicopter ride over London. To put all this into perspective, the money raised is enough to keep a children's home in South Africa running for over 3 years which is an amazing thought.

Even though the main body of the evening was now over, the party just would not stop. The venue, Room, and talented DJs 'This Week's Gold' kept the crowd entertained whilst champagne and cocktails flowed freely. For the more hardcore of the group, Circle hosted an after party until dawn!
