Fashion Kicks: Selfridges Fashion Show
Following the loss of his Mother to Cancer; MCFC Goalie, Shay Given has been a patron of Macmillan. He and his wife, Jane, organised Fashion Kicks to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Stockport based Beechwood Care Centre.
The evening kicked off underneath the marquee at Lancashire County Cricket Club with a Champagne reception and a chance to celeb spot whilst munching on Avocado Tartlets prepared by Savoy chef Steven Doughety. Spotted stars included Helen Flanagan, the belle of the ball, who was being harassed by The Sun. She wore a baby pink Dolce & Gabbana, dress embellished with Mickey Mouse logos and paired it with a black Chanel
handbag. Louis Walsh was greeting the Westlife boys at the catwalk’s edge who were all, Walsh included, polished to perfection. Squeezing past Kym Marsh, we secured good seats as quickly as possible. Sat a respectable four rows from the front, we had scored the best seats that mere mortals were allowed to occupy.
Neil Fox took to the catwalk to introduce the evening and the show, provided by Selfridges & Co, and then the lights dimmed, the catwalk illuminated and the show began. Amber Le Bon started the show wearing a superb Peter Pilotto sculpted multi coloured dress, in store for £1835. The first part of the show featured printed mini dresses in mostly neon shades from labels such as Dolce & Gabbana and Vionnet. With interruptions from scantily clad male models the show continued with McQueen
and Herve Leger featured to the tune of vampy LBDs and also showcased was a lace and chiffon collection in pastel pink hues from Fendi
, available to order.
Surprisingly the menswear collection was the ultimate highlight of the show featuring clashing demin from Dsquared2 and D&G
and some rather nervous MCFC stars. Calvin Klein
latest collection of underwear, X, was well received by all. The raunchy and distinctly homoerotic video from xmarkyourspot.com was played to the crowd followed by a troop of muscle men who strutted down the catwalk wearing the options, available from £20 a pair.
With the show over we moved into the dining marquee, decorated with candelabras, chandeliers and WAGs. The five course dinner was prepared by the Academy of Culinary Arts which is comprised of top chefs from venues such as the Savoy, Café 21 and The London Carriage Works Kitchen. We were served a flaky and light Salmon start, an incredible Lancashire beef main which was then followed by a white chocolate Streusel with sour cherries. Coffee followed and William Curley’s Chocolates whilst Jason Manford told a few jokes.
The charity auction, lead by Denis Taylor, was a spectacle to say the least. A Harley Davidson 2010 Night Rod went for the bargain price of £18,000 and some incredible Selfridges shopping spree packages, including trips to Paris and the Christian Dior Institute which went for around £8,000 each. A silent auction ran alongside where bidders warred over Golfing trips with Ant & Dec and concert tickets to see and meet Boyzone. After the millionaires had spent their pocket money and after Westlife had performed an astonishing set, we sneaked into the after show party hosted in the now transformed marquee where the fashion show had been, garden furniture was provided by Outdoor Chic.
