Rising fashion star visits Manchester
MFN is invited to Exclusive Jonathan Kelsey launch
By Editor, Ryan Cooper-Brown
Manchester played host this week to one the world’s most promising footwear designers Jonathan Kelsey. The Manchester Fashion Network was invited along to a first peak at the new range from the man who has worked with Mulberry, Jimmy Choo and now Pucci as well as producing his own brilliant work.
To set the scene, the press event took place on the second floor of the Harvey Nichols store in Manchester’s Exchange square. As you entered you were met with a cocktail, and at half past one in the afternoon I call that the best start to the day. All of the press was then ushered through into the restaurant to see the new collection, one person desperate to see the range was Coronation streets Ali King, as she immediately went to try them on.
‘Photo Ops’ and greeting done we then sat down to a lunch of orange soup, crab and a green ice cream of which I couldn’t begin to guess the ingredients of which it contained as lovely though it was. The usual press chit chat ensued as I bided my time to meet the man.
Right the fashion bit……
Jonathan explained to me how he is heavily influenced by the Tim Burton films such as Edward scissor hands and the Nightmare before Christmas. These influences showed through in his choices of leathers and embelishments and the sheer ‘gothic sexiness.’ Jonathan also told me that his collections in some part are inspired by his mother, which is often the case for many fashion designers.
Although I myself did not get the opportunity to try on any of the shoes the quotes I did pick up describing the fit explained “these are a woman’s dream” and “I feel it is helping my posture”. The collection then moved into a more Louis the 14th inspired look, with ribbon fronts and slightly chunkier heels with a softer but equally as rich colour palate of purples and crimson adding an air of decadence.
Then, just as you think you have absorbed the range a bright golden metallic pair of heels hits you, I felt this selection was to show Jonathans more fun and flirty yet slightly more high end side, which if that is the case, it was executed perfectly.
Jonathan is truly a talent and we here at MFN wish his star to keep rising, and invite him back to Manchester anytime.
