A Sporting Achievement
Summer time is simply the best time of the year. During the months from June to August every British citizen gets the chance to usher in and welcome the warmer weather. Plus we begin to plan great summer adventures such as music festivals and holidays and we also have the opportunity to don our sunglasses and sit out under the rays eating great food from the BBQ. The summer sunshine not only brings fun but with it a variety of sporting events from football to tennis. The summertime is an important player in the world of sport and this observation has not gone unnoticed by the captains of the Fashion Industry.
Jean Paul Gautier is an established and world renowned player within the Fashion world; he is instantly recognisable as the designer behind the ‘cone bra’ famously worn by the Queen of Pop, Madonna. His creations have always been striking and the finishing touch to any fashion week- this year was no certainly exception. His designs for Hermes' spring 2010 collection drew inspiration from the main summer sport; tennis and he has created a unique take on the sport.
Drawing upon this season’s trends such as sheer dresses and the key colour for summer- white; Gautier created stunning yet wearable pieces perfect for an afternoon at Wimbledon sipping champagne and munching on sumptuous strawberries and cream.
The dramatic combination of pleated tennis skirts against socks and heels was a great concept; mixing traditional sporting apparel with a strong feminine look. This dramatic combination was carried right through the collection. Visors and headbands were worn with long floating maxi dresses. The contrast was both bold yet beautiful. Obviously the infamous Birkin bag was paraded down the runway for all to admire carrying nothing but a tennis racket. It wouldn’t be Hermes without its iconic handbag! This season it has been given a unique twist- as it comes in an elegant clean white colour, making it an ideal addition to any summer outfit this season.
Attempting this look this season couldn’t be easier especially since most high street stores have already produced items that are both feminine and sporty. We suggest hitting American Apparel for all your sweatbands, Topman for your visors and Marks & Spencers for your strawberries. Hermes
might not be accessible for all of us but New Look are currently stocking a large summer range.
Another option would be the sporting giant, Adidas. Their latest collection is both colourful and durable which is great for the coming summer months. Why not try the look yourself this season and see if you can win over some fans with your new summer style.
