Urban Decay is known for it's wide range of colourful, vibrant and fun products that all boast the vegetarian (and sometimes vegan) logo. The Urban Decay concession in Debenhams has recently been given a makeover along with the impressive and rather luxurious revamp that has happened throughout the store.

I was invited down to the Urban Decay concession in Debenhams on Market Street, Manchester to have a chat with Anna Mitchell, Business Manager for the North West Urban Decay and sample some of their new products.

Manchester Fashion Network: Tell us a little bit about Urban Decay...

Anna Mitchell: It's quite a new brand (set up in 1998) that started with nail varnish. They created a new nail varnish colour because they didn't feel there was enough choice in the market, and it's expanded from there. The nail varnish hasn't been featured within the ranges recently, but it's coming back into the range this year.

The brand is quite risque, bright and colourful our tagline is 'beauty with an edge'. It's very eyeshadow based but we're starting to bring in complexion products, setting sprays and nail varnish.

MFN: How did you get into the industry and working for Urban Decay?

AM:  I was a freelance make up artist for three years and did an HND in Media Design. After that I worked for a cosmetics company in Manchester but I broke my wrist so had to take some time off. I applied online for a position within Urban Decay and arranged a meeting with the area manager, who suggested I go for the role of Business Manager and here I am!

We will be becoming the flagship Urban Decay store so we'll need to build our staff, we only have 5 at the moment, and we will also be introducing a lash bar at the end of June.

MFN: What trends will we be seeing this summer?

AM:  Smoky eyes with a difference, with a flash of colour. We also have a range called 'Summer of Love' which is all rainbow eyes, candy colours and cat like flicks, perfect for a festival!

MFN: What is your favourite product within the range?

AM:  A product called 'Razor Sharp', which is a finishing powder. It sets your make up but it also hydrates your skin, it also has illuminating particles. It is designed for photographic make up and looks good under every light so it's great!

MFN:  What do you love about Manchester?

AM:  There's such a diverse range of people. I've worked in Manchester for a long time so I'm used to it. The people are trendsetters, I love living in Manchester.

MFN: Where is your favourite place to shop?

AM: I love Topshop, I recently bought a necklace with a pocket watch on which I love. I also go to Mango a lot.

MFN: Who is your style icon?

AM:  Definitely Lady Gaga because she is just nuts but she can so get away with it! I also like the style of pretty girls like Leona Lewis and Rihanna who both use Urban Decay products.
