Knit and Natter

Knitting. Not something you’d associate with a good night in. It’s not sexy or exciting and many would never dream of doing something so ‘boring’ yet it seems to have captured the minds of the up and coming.

With the economic crisis and the government cutting down on everything it seems the fashion trends are going back to basics with many designers sourcing closer to home and emphasising the talents our dear Grandparents had.

Knit and Natter groups are popping up all over the UK and people are becoming more involved in creating their own clothes and style. People such as myself are joining forces with their grannies and learning the skill that could have very easily died out with the newer technologies.

The standard misconception with knitwear is that it’s big bulky and unattractive yet designers like Johan Ku bring elegance and sophistication to the trend with his wearable crochet range that incorporate intricate pattern and soft curvy design.

GFW showcased its own twist on knitwear with Emma Philpot showcasing a draped crochet collection and Phoebe Thirlwall with her gathered body con range attracted attention and Jo Bee had some beautiful frayed edges on her work.

Whether you think knitting is outdated or not, I am defiantly pro-knit and think it’s on its way back in a more sexy and modern design. Although if you’re thinking of starting your own knit and natter circle I’d suggest getting it started as soon as possible as I’ve been working on a jumper for the last 3 months and it’s much harder than it looks!

Find a knitting group near you or start your own on Stitch 'n Bitch.
