Style Icon - Audrey Tautou
Audrey Tautou, an eclectic French style icon, first reached international acclamation for her part as kooky Montmarte waitress, Amelie. Since her rise to global fame, her contemporary looks and striking gamine appearance have continued to score high in the style stakes. Loved for her classic and fresh take on typical French styling, she can only be described as ‘tres chic’.
Despite reaching unexpected popularity, it became evident that Tautou preferred to be away from the Hollywood limelight, and apart from her role in the Da Vinci Code, she returned to feature in her home country’s productions.
One of the prime examples of her brilliant flair for portraying stunning French style is in the 2009 romantic comedy, Priceless. Confident and manipulative, she plays a gold-digger who finds love with a waiter amidst a flurry of dazzling outfit changes. With the opening shot featuring boxes of Chanel shoes, it can’t help but tempt the viewer to remain transfixed by the way Tautou’s slight figure and beautiful auburn tresses carry off the designer dresses so effortlessly.
Most notably furthering her fashion credentials, Tautou starred in Anne Fontaine’s 2009 film ‘Coco Before Chanel’, whilst featuring in Chanel’s prestigious No. 5 television and editorial adverts- perfectly suited to her androgynous appeal and typical Gallic characteristics.
It’s easy to understand why her style is so coveted, ranging from girly cocktail dresses perfectly complimenting her gorgeous pixie crop, to the elegant fashion-forward pink Lanvin dress she wore at this years BAFTAS.
Oozing vintage Hollywood glamour, she juxtaposes this through her quirky take on accessorizing and rebukes the normal extension-laden, tanned clones that we have come to expect on the red carpet. Her reluctance to remain in the public eye or relay in detail her private life also adds to her allure, creating a quiet yet subtly sexy persona who represents perfectly how to do style with substance.
Channel your inner French icon through sophisticated tailoring and elegant accessorizing, remembering to keep it simple. The secret to Audrey’s look? Never be seen without the ultimate French accessory: red lipstick – preferably by Chanel! If you want her look the rule is to keep it simple and classic, think Chanel, YSL, Acne, Jil Sander, Jaeger, Saint James and Clavin Klein.
