The last few weeks have seen many of our major cities, Manchester included, partying and celebrating on a grand scale. From the Notting Hill Carnival to Manchester Pride it’s all about the costume, the style and the spectacle.

So if you are beginning to miss the elaborate costumes and trimmings fear not because designers and high street stores alike have added intricate detailing to there latest winter trends.

One example of this is the inclusion of feather detailing. Plumage seems to be sprouting up all over the high street. From embellished shoulder detail on evening dresses to feather print t-shirts- it’s getting everywhere!

The trend was originally seen back in 2009 in the catwalk shows of Alexander Wang and Givenchy. Even the late, great, Alexander Mc Queen incorporated a raven black feather coat in his 2009 autumn/ winter collection which finished his collection beautifully and won rapturous applause.

Feathers have since floated down through to the high street this autumn.

Oasis have definitely taken the golden egg cup this season by including in their latest autumn collection a stylish, long cardigan with elaborate feather detailing on the shoulder. This is perfect for those ladies who are more practical fashionistas.

However, if you prefer to make a statement we recommend the Lipsy jersey dress. The LBD is bang on trend this month and with its feather detail its perfect for making a statement.

If you aren’t really one for strutting your stuff then why not try wearing feather jewellery. From Topshop’s feather chain drop earrings in black and grey to Oasis’s peacock bangle there is definitely a piece suitable for every fashion addict to try.

Go on; try a bit of plumage this autumn- it’s certain to embellish any outfit.
