Last Saturday saw T4's Gemma Cairney take to the streets of Manchester armed with a film crew and the Impulse Style Hunter team to track down the most stylish girls on the High Street.

We managed to grab Gemma for a quick chat during the hunt to find out a little bit more about her personal style, the difference between fashion in London compared to Manchester and London Fashion Week...

MFN: How would you describe your style?
GC: One life long experiment.

MFN: What's it like being a 'style hunter' and what do you look for?
GC: It's quite exhilarating chasing people round their local town centres, plus you learn way more chatting to real people than anyone in the fashion industry most of the time.

MFN: How did you get involved with Impulse?
GC: I was approached after I've been seen gassing & giggling about clothes on T4 series of 'Frock Me' & as the fashion expert on Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show from time to time. Impulse were conducting a Style Hunter Search and the fit worked well.

MFN: What, in your opinion, are the biggest style differences between Manchester and London?

GC: Manchester fashion heads are almost more detailed. Their references are often music based & a lot of the groups of friends inspire each other.

MFN: Who has been your favourite designer at London Fashion Week so far?
GC: A newish designer called Hannah Marshall. Her collections already have a cult following but this season it seemed more wearable & I loved the way she played with material to make shapes.

MFN: What trends will you be following (or creating) this season?
GC: I think I'm going to start wearing more skirts (huge poooooofy ones) rather than my usual dress option.

MFN: How did you get into the fashion industry?
GC: Accidentally. I couldn't get any acting work after I'd left drama school. So I bought magazines and wrote to the stylist of the shoots that I liked the most asking for advice & work experience. I did a lot of working whether for free or not much at all and a lot of ironing too!
