2008 The Summer Of Style
Madchester Girls, It’s Time To Go Fashion Crazy!
By Amy W
Yes the sun is shining, and it may be boiling hot, so hot that you feel you just need to rip all your clothes off and walk around naked. However to the men of Manchester who parade around with their shirts off – I am advising you to put them back on!!It has occurred to me that Manchester needs a set of fashion police, the clothes that I see people wearing either makes me laugh or stay clear. For many years now I have always wanted to take someone off the street and style him or her appropriately. No one wants to see muffin top, Ugg wearing girls in the summer and please will people wear colours other than black!! To the guys out there if you are going to show off your body please get a spray tan.
One of my pet hates is when I see men walking around shirtless (or are they?) and they have those ridiculous tan marks – red arms and a red neck – a permanent white t-shirt!This summer let’s show the other cities that Manchester really does have fashion sense. So girls, it’s time for a spending spree, the latest trends for Summer 2008 are Safari, Floral, Short hemlines, 'Off the Shoulder', Asymmetric and Corsages to accessorize (as seen in Sex & The City). For gorgeous evening wear check out the General Store, they have a great Bolongaro Trevor collection suitable for any occasion. Team these outfits with chunky platforms, from Kurt Geiger, TopShop or River Island’s new summer collection. The best place for accessories this summer is Urban Outfitters and TopShop.
Bows and flowers are hot this season so get accessorising. It’s still all about the oversized clutch however this time they have to be soft, no stiff handbags girls it’s all about the large squishy ones. One of the main colours that I am attracted to at the moment is Electric Blue – to the girls who know me, I have become rather obsessed with this colour, my one dress that I just bought from No Angel (Affleck’s Palace), has become the most worn item in my wardrobe of recent and this colour is even more fabulous with a tan. Forget black - it is all about block bright colours this season: stand out from the crowd with bold shades of pink, purple, blue and yellow and if you are daring enough, try the new Essie range of neon nail polish to match.
