Born in Manchester, Bench is an urban lifestyle fashion brand providing relaxed, innovative street wear. Originally offering t-shirts inspired by the late 80s and early 90s culture of skateboarding, bmxing and the ‘Madchester’ music scene, Bench has expanded and grown, now with a global presence. Bench offer a full product range for men, women and children who want to show their individuality in their clothing, who they describe as ‘real’ people. With a separate website Bench Live, and by sponsoring and hosting music festivals and events, Bench stays true to their roots, a company inspired by the underground, alternative music scene and culture.

For the UK, Bench’s sole social media offering is through Facebook. Updated very frequently, images and links to featured products are posted on the page, along with topical updates and questions. By engaging customers in a conversation with the brand, they are ensuring interaction is made with customers as much as possible, even when there isn’t a direct sale to be made, creating a stronger brand-consumer relationship.

Special offers and competitions are also promoted on the page, such as a recent competiton to win a VIP package to Canada’s Igloofest, a winter underground electric music festival.

Despite the popularity and great usage of their Facebook page, this is their only channel. Bench Canada, the Canada specific branch of Bench, also has a Facebook page, along with a well utilised Twitter account, with almost 6000 followers. Providing a similar strategy as the UK based Facebook page, Bench could replicate this strategy for the UK in order to boost social media coverage.
