In his early 50s, Harvey has footwear in his blood.  Manchester born and bred and a former market trader, Harvey has followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather; continuing a family tradition spanning over 80 years in footwear.  Harvey now heads up Jacobson Group which he formed, together with his brother, over 30 years ago.

 
Harvey starting selling shoes at the age of 12 in his father’s Moss Side shop; this is far removed from the £80 million shoe empire he controls today.  Jacobson Group owns brands such as Ravel, Gola, Lotus and Frank Wright and also incorporates a strong ‘own label’ footwear division.

 
‘Cutting his teeth’ on the markets of Manchester, Harvey says this is where he really got to ‘understand trading’, standing him in good stead for the ups and downs that the business would throw at him over the years.

 
Putting his success down to a combination of good management and genuine hard work with a bit of good luck thrown in, Harvey is shrewd and holds an indisputable aptitude for realizing a good business opportunity.  This is particularly evident when you consider his purchase of Gola in 1996; Harvey’s most quoted quote is as follows:

 
“When we bought Gola we thought we’d bought silver when in fact we’d bought gold…..having realised we’d bought gold, it turned out to be platinum.”

 
A naturally modest man, Harvey lives, sleeps and breathes business, but he also has a serious Manchester United habit together with a love of rock music and an enviable collection of briefcases.
