Designers - Manchester, North West (Manchester)
The Designer is accountable for designing commercial, innovative and cohesive ranges working to a product brief and target price points. Ensuring that the Product department corporate calendar deadlines are met.
Deliverables: Criteria/Results By Which Success Can Be Measured
Working with Product Managers and Senior Designers to conduct design research, shop reports, and internet prediction information, keeping up to date with any new trends and innovations throughout UK and Europe
Attend development workshops when necessary and log all feedback from UK and European sales teams
Attend key trade exhibitions and report back to the team on trends and competitor analysis
Confirming colour palette with Product Managers and Senior Design Manager ensuring that all European and UK colour requirements are covered
Produce and present initial CAD colourway sheets to Senior Design Manager, Brand Manager and Product Managers, confirm all colourways in line with Sales feedback and maintaining and up dating the PDM colour range plans.
Producing accurate colourway sheets within the layered Design template to issue to factories before salesmens sample production in line with corporate calendar
Fabric development programme –
Ensure accurate check, print & lining artwork is handed to fabric champions to standard & according to calendar deadlines.
Handing over Pantone references for lab dipping to the appropriate team in line with the departmental calendar.
Working with Senior Design Manager and Product Managers to prepare for initial strategy meetings with all necessary CAD artwork, colour and initial design ideas
If necessary attending development workshops with Product Manager and Senior Buyers.
Working closely with buyer to prepare for development workshop and make any necessary amendments to the design prior to or after meeting to ensure target price can be met.
Post Strategy/Development Specification–
Create full development spec in close liaison with Product Development Team and Product Development Manager keeping to agreed corporate calendar dates, in preparation for development trip, to include colour pictures within the layered Design template.
Branding & Accessory development –
Creating any new branding artwork and ensuring any new branding design requirements are handed over to standard & to schedule.
Working within commercial constraints when agreeing trim colours and thinking around problems in an innovative way
Generating all Graphics and stencil artwork and working with the Product Developers and Senior Buyers to confirm commercial print techniques
Be aware of supplier and fabric limitations when designing, taking note of trip feedback and learning from sales feedback
Accountable for creation of commercial range to deliver required growth
Manage and plan own workload to meet corporate calendar deadlines, including handover of accurate development specs to Product Developer teams
Development trip –
If necessary travel to Asia to work directly with suppliers developing ranges in conjunction with buyers that are easy to produce and to the target price point. If necessary engineering/ re designing product to price point and making sketch alterations whilst in the factory
Act as a company ambassador whilst in Asia, delivering company values and high level of professionalism whilst working with and building relationships with suppliers.
Send amended image files back to UK team in order for new spec to be re issued to supplier within 24 hour timescale
Post Development trip –
Attend pre sample & sample review meetings, note any styling changes or fit comments, ensure the Product Developer team and Product Development Manager are briefed
Keep Product Development team informed of any changes to style and ensure development specifications are kept up to date.
Ensure Product Developers are issued with colourway sheets in order to build trims pages in line with corporate calendar
Sample Review –
Prepare all development samples before sample review ensuring all stencil artworks are applied and the sample answers theoriginal brief set at strategy
Present Development samples to the key sales teams explaining all details clearly and if necessary presenting CAD artworks to support ideas
Post Sample Review –
Ensure Product Developers are informed of any changes and any image files are amended and CAD colourway sheetsare re issued to teams
Experience: Relevant experience for the role
Design qualification or experience
Creative flair and ability to translate trends commercially
Other Significant Role Requirements & Technical Knowledge
Able to work in a fast pace environment & to deadlines
Undertake trips to Asia to visit suppliers when required.
Strong deliver / service orientation
Computer literate, full understanding of Adobe Illustrator CAD software and layering systems
Understanding of garment construction and the ability to work within commercial constraints
Salary: £26000 - £27000
